Who we are
We are a small team of UK construction estimators, software engineers, and writers — based across England, Scotland and Wales. Our editor has worked in building cost consulting for 12 years.
How we research prices
Every price on this site comes from one or more of:
- UK trade-association rate surveys (RICS, FMB, NICEIC, Gas Safe Register, NFRC)
- List prices from B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix, Howdens, Travis Perkins, Topps Tiles, Toolstation
- Real homeowner quote-sheets shared with us (anonymised)
- Published cost guides from Checkatrade, MyBuilder, HomeOwners Alliance, Which?
Prices are uplifted for projected 2026 inflation and reviewed monthly.
How we make money
We earn a commission when readers connect with tradesperson networks (typically Checkatrade, MyBuilder, Bark) through our free quote forms. Display advertising via Google AdSense supports the site. Neither affects what you pay — and we never sell email addresses.
Editorial independence
No tradesperson, brand or supplier pays for placement in our guides. Our pricing reflects the market, not the marketing budget of any company.
